your data, plainly.
LINK only asks for what it needs to introduce you to people and opportunities. This page says exactly what that is, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted.
the short version.
- LINK does not sell your personal information. Not to anyone, for any price.
- You decide what goes in your profile. Only your name and email are required.
- Nothing is shared with a venture until you raise your hand for it.
- Email linkstudentnetwork@gmail.com and your account and data get deleted.
who we are
LINK Student Network LLC ("LINK", "we", "us") operates linkstudentnetwork.com and the free student network on it. We are based in the Chicago, Illinois area. This policy covers the website and the accounts, profiles, and venture matching inside it.
This policy takes effect October 7, 2026.
what we collect
Information you give us
When you create a profile, we collect what you type into it:
- your name
- your email address
- your school and graduation year
- your skills and interests
- your bio — what you are trying to build
- any links you add, such as a portfolio, GitHub, or Instagram
Only your name and email are required. Every other field is optional, and you can edit or clear any of it at any time from your profile.
Venture interest submissions
When you raise your hand for a venture, we record which venture it was, when you did it, and the status of that interest as LINK reviews it. If you add a note or name a role you want, we store that too.
Google sign-in information
LINK uses your Google account to sign you in, so there is no LINK password to create or lose. When you sign in, Google tells us your name, email address, and a unique account identifier that we use to recognize you on your next visit. That is all we receive. We never see or store your Google password, and we do not request access to your Gmail, Drive, contacts, calendar, or any other Google service.
Messages you send us
If you use a contact or inquiry form, or email us directly, we keep that message and your contact details so we can reply.
What we do not collect
LINK does not ask for and does not store payment card numbers, government identification numbers, or financial account details. We do not run advertising trackers on this site.
why we use it
We use the information above to:
- operate the student network — show you ventures, keep your profile and activity in one place
- match students with ventures and opportunities — read your profile against what a venture says it needs, and make introductions
- create and manage your account — sign you in, keep you signed in, and show you the status of what you raised your hand for
- communicate with you — reply to you, send an introduction when you are matched, and tell you about things relevant to your account
- improve the service — understand what is working so the network gets more useful
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that affect you without a person at LINK involved. A human reads every raised hand.
what we never do
LINK does not sell your personal information. We do not rent, trade, or share it with data brokers, advertisers, or list builders.
We do not post publicly as you, and we do not make your profile browsable by other students.
who else touches it
LINK is a small operation and relies on a few outside services to work. These companies process data on our behalf, under their own privacy terms, and only to provide the service to us:
- Google — handles sign-in and authentication. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — hosts the database that stores profiles, ventures, and interest records, and manages your login session. See the Supabase Privacy Policy.
- Netlify — serves this website. See the Netlify Privacy Policy.
- Formspree — delivers submissions from our contact and inquiry forms to our email. See the Formspree Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces this site uses, which means your browser requests them from Google.
When you raise your hand for a venture, LINK may share your profile and contact details with that venture in order to make the introduction. That is the point of the network — but it only happens for ventures you chose, never automatically and never in bulk.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights or safety of LINK or someone else.
how it is kept
Your data lives in a hosted database with access rules enforced at the database level: your records are readable only by your own signed-in account and by LINK administrators. Traffic to and from this site is encrypted.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you.
how long we keep it
We keep your profile for as long as your account exists, because the account is the profile. If you ask us to delete it, we remove your profile and your interest records. We may keep a minimal record of the request itself, and anything we are required to retain by law.
your choices
- See it — your profile is visible to you any time at your account page.
- Change it — edit or clear any field yourself, whenever you want.
- Withdraw interest — you can take back a raised hand.
- Delete everything — email us and we will remove your account and data.
- Ask what we hold — email us and we will tell you.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Email us and we will honor them; we are not going to make you prove you are entitled to something before we help you.
To do any of the above, write to linkstudentnetwork@gmail.com.
students under 18
LINK is built for high school and college students, so we expect that some members are under 18. LINK is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is comfortable with you having an account.
If you are a parent or guardian and want your student's information removed, email us and we will take care of it.
changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change meaningfully affects how we handle your information, we will tell account holders by email rather than quietly editing the page.
